2009 La Pousse d'Or Volnay Clos d'Audignac
Wines from Domaine de la Pousse d'Or in 2009 across the board show remarkable minerality, as well as tremendous complexity and balance, qualities that of course we've come to expect with this historic estate. Yet the added boost of an exceptional vintage, not to mention Landanger's savvy addition of new, storied terroirs from Chambolle and Morey, have resulted in a very impressive, yet also very limited, collection of wines that are more than memorable.

Pousse's attention to detail and dedication to organic viticulture (the estate is not officially certified but has followed organic principles for years) is serious. Vineyards are cared for without the use of pesticides or herbicides and are regularly plowed; wines are vinified as naturally as can be and are bottled unfined and unfiltered. Landanger too has decided to cut back on his use of new barrique across his collection of premier and grand crus, with the goal of allowing the wines to express more pure fruit and individual terroir characteristics-an informed and savvy move on his part, as for us these wines are even more expressive, lively on the tongue and certainly better balanced than we ever remembered. North Berkeley Imports 


This noble vineyard is the domaine's red carpet, a monopole that leads directly to the domaine's front door. Iron-rich soils contribute a weighty complexity. "Good deep ruby-red...pure nose hints at black cherry, dark berries, licorice and mint. Dense, lush and sweet, with strong fruit intensified by serious inner-mouth energy.
