The Grivot family originally came from the North-East region of France, Le Jura, in the 18th Century. After establishing themselves primarily around Nuits-St-Georges and Corgoloin, Joseph Grivot founded a wine company in Vosne-Romanée, but it was his son Gaston who developed significantly the Domaine. In 1919, Gaston sold vines in the lesser area to purchase a large parcel of the Grand Cru of Clos de Vougeot. Together with his son Jean, they made the Grivot name famous in the wine world, another Grand Cru acquisition took place in 1984 with a parcel of Richebourg. Etienne joined the Domaine in 1987 and quickly made enormous impact with goals to restore the natural soil balance and starting implementing new fermentation techniques with proper use of oak and a biodynamic approach in the vineyard. Etienne's wines tend to be deep colored and to age well, while maximizing the terroir and making wines of unique typicity. The Domaine produces wines from the surrounding Appellations of Vosne- Romanée, Nuits-Saint-Georges as well as Grands Crus Clos de Vougeot, Echezeaux and Richebourg.
Elegant and sumptuous. Often has scents of violet and spices. Matures earlier than our other grand crus. In its youth it is fragrant and silky becoming deep and full when it matures. A round wine which is rarely very tannic. May be kept 8 to 10 years. Our favourite wine at home when we are having pheasant or guineafowl.
