Co-founded by Dan and Margaret Duckhorn in 1976, Duckhorn Vineyards in Napa Valley, California has established itself as a one of Napa's best-known producers of classic varietal wines. Their Duckhorn Vineyards 'Napa Valley' Merlot is a complex and ageable expression of the varietal, highlighting the rich diversity of the Napa Valley appellation. In the final blend, winemaker Bill Nancarrow adds some Cabernet Sauvignon and a touch of Petit Verdot to add nuance and depth. This wine's hearty tannins and balanced acidity provide a textural framework for an enticing array of aromas and flavors that begin with notes of bright red cherry, plum, tobacco, vanilla and anise. A great wine to enjoy with roasted rack of lamb or a classic steak sandwich on hardy sourdough.
