2008 Giovanni Almondo Roero Nebbiolo

"Once again, Almondo has turned out a fabulous set of wines. Readers who want to explore Roero should start here."
-Antonio Galloni The Wine Advocate

Roero occupies the north-eastern part of the province of Cuneo, between the left side of the river Tanaro and the provincial borders of Asti and Turin eastward and northward.

The vineyards spread over about 425 square kilometers at elevations between 200 and 430 m above sea level, on a range of rugged hillsides and high slopes.

The average rainfall is relatively low, with extremes in the northern part of the territory, which does not exceed 570 mm per year; this, along with a steady wind from the north-west flying over the area, has heavy influences on the advance of phenological stages and fruit ripening.

The vineyard area of the territory corresponds to 2350 hectares, planted mainly with Arneis, Nebbiolo, Barbera and Brachetto, whose total production exceeds 13 million bottles.

90 points Wine Advocate:
:The 2008 Roero is a gorgeous wine redolent of sweet red cherries, flowers and spices. There is plenty of Nebbiolo typicity in this mid-weight, highly articulate wine. There is no shortage of class and elegance here. Still, I would choose to drink this relatively young. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2018. Antonio Galloni
