2008 Claiborne & Churchill Edna Valley Pinot Noir
Claiborne & Churchill Vintners, located in California's Central Coast region near San Louis Obispo, are well-known for their fruity but dry dinner wines modeled on those made in the French province of Alsace. However, what many people may not know is that they also make an excellent Pinot Noir. Their Claiborne & Churchill 'Edna Valley' Pinot Noir 2007 is made from premium Edna Valley Pinot Noir fruit. Winemaker Coby Parker-Garcia has the fruit hand- picked and sorted in the vineyard and then fermented in individual lots so that he can achieve the optimum blend. The result is a Pinot with aromas of wild berries that leap from the glass, with layers of raspberries, dark strawberries and cherries on the palate. This Pinot Noir has it all. It is rich and velvety, backed by soft smooth tannins with a hint of oak. It drinks very well now and should also age nicely over the next five years.
