Cecchi is the historic brand-name of a major company, but more than anything else it's the name of a family. From 1893 up to the present day the Cecchi family has been a participant in the evolution of the world of wine both as a product and as a philosophy, and it has lived, understood and assimilated all the changes that have taken place within it in over a century.
It all began with Luigi, when he started his activity as a 'palatista', or a wine taster. During the first half of the 1900s Luigi was joined by his son, Cesare, and began to take the first steps in the creation of a marketing and distribution activity beyond the national borders.
As time developed and Italian wine was increasingly found on tables all over the world, Luigi , grand-son of the first one , a man gifted with great farsightedness understood that the paths to success included new plant, new technologies, the search for new land, and new markets: the word of the day was innovation.
At the helm of the business today are Cesare and Andrea, who, drawing on the teachings of their predecessors, are taking the work forward with a passion and a professionalism aimed at the achieving of excellence.
Today Cecchi has about 300 hectares of vineyards, spread over four different areas of central Italy: Chianti Classico, San Gimignano, Maremma Toscana and Umbria. The common denominator of these lands is a vocation for the vine, which is also the starting point of Cecchi's philosophy.
In modern viticulture the starting point is the land; from the sixties up to the present the work in the vineyards has continued without interruption, and the associated buildings have been rebuilt and redesigned as part of the upgrading of the land. Not least in importance is the construction of the new management centre on the Castellina in Chianti premises completed in 2006.
