2007 Ca' del Baio Barbaresco Marcarini

A great love for the earth and the hard work of four generations gave birth to Ca' del Baio and helped it grow and realize the fruits of its success. The first person to actually vinify grapes was Luigi Grasso, followed by Ernesto and finally Giulio who, along with his wife Luciana, has prepared the future: the daughters Paola, Valentina and Federica. Azienda Agricola Ca' del Baio is located in the town of Treiso, in the province of Cuneo, in the Langhe region.

Wine is made in the vineyard where the typicity of particular grape varieties is preserved, old clones are taken care of, and work is carried out with passion and experience, day after day, season after season. The wines of Ca' del Baio are born out of this close relationship of love, which begins in the vineyard and continues in the winery.

In the Ca' del Baio winery, tradition and innovation work in harmony. Alongside modern temperature-controlled stainless tanks, one finds traditional casks of wood in a variety of forms: large casks, 500-liter barrels and small 225-liter barriques.

The vineyards, dedicated to the Nebbiolo, Dolcetto, Barbera, Moscato and Chardonnay grape varieties, are located in the areas of Treiso and Barbaresco. Nebbiolo, destined for Barbaresco DOCG, is ultimately divided into four Crus (single-vineyard bottlings): Valgrande, Marcarini, Asili e Pora.

The most recent arrival in the Ca' del Baio winery. Our first Cru Macarini was born in 2003 from a vineyard only 10 years old. Sufficient time is necessary to best appreciate this wine. Ca' del Baio Winery

92 points Wine Advocate:
-The 2007 Barbaresco Marcarini is a shade weightier and richer than the Valgrande in its dark cherries, minerals, menthol, tar, new leather and cloves. This medium-bodied, vibrant Barbaresco possesses gorgeous depth and persistence, along with firm tannins that frame an exquisite finish. In this vintage I am struck by the detail and nuance in the Marcarini. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2022. Antonio Galloni
