2006 Tor Kenward To Kalon Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon
As a senior executive with Beringer Vineyards, Tor Kenward spent 27 years working in winemaking under the tutelage of Ed Sbragia and Bob Steinhauer. When he retired 2001, Tor and his wife Susan, started TOR Kenward Family Wines, a small Napa Valley, California winery that focuses on single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay. In 2003 they hired Jeff Ames as head winemaker to work with Tor. Their flagship wine is the Tor Kenward 'To Kalon Vineyard' Cabernet Sauvignon. This very big and full-bodied wine boasts abundant amounts of sweet creme de cassis, smoky herbs, graphite, cedar, and fruitcake aromas. On the palate the wine shows pure ripe fruit of currant, plum and wild dark berries interwoven with hints of chocolate and sage. It gains depth and momentum on the finish, which is long and graceful with fine-grained tannins. This wine should need 10+ years to reach its maximum potential.
