Val di Suga is the group’s wine estate in Montalcino, the birthplace of the most prestigious of our denominations: Brunello di Montalcino. The property extends over an area of 120 hectares, 55 of which are planted in Sangiovese vines. What makes our estate unique in the area is its layout, with vineyards on three different slopes of the Montalcino hill country: to the north, the Val di Suga vineyard, spreading all around the wine cellar and including the well-known Vigna del Lago planting; to the southwest, the San Polo vineyard, the “youngest” planting, which enjoys a sterling position; to the southeast, the Spuntali vineyard that produces our famous Cru. The opportunity to use grapes from the three areas, each of which is very different from the others in terms of soil type and exposure, permits the Val di Suga estate to produce harmonious, extremely well-balanced wines that combine all the finest characteristics of this terroir.
Intense ruby red with purple highlights. Very rich and complex, with aromas of small red fruits, and enriched spicy toasted tones. Powerful and elegant, with a long aromatic finish. Excellent with game, grilled and roast meat and cheese.
The 2006 Brunello di Montalcino is a rich, deep, powerful wine. Layers of dark fruit melt into tobacco, mocha, dried flowers and mint in this muscular Brunello. The wine’s richness flows through to the generous, enveloping finish. This is a strong effort from Angelini. It will be fascinating to see where the estate’s top label ends up in 2006. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2026. #194May 2011
"Aromas of cedar and milk chocolate with berries and cherries. Full body, with velvety tannins and a chewy finish. Better in a year or two but so delicious now. "
