250095 - Antinori Tignanello 2008Antinori Tignanello 2008
94 points The Wine Advocate:The 2008 Tignanello is unquestionably one of the wines of the vintage. The 2008 isn’t a huge or obvious Tignanello, rather it is a wine that impresses for its sublime elegance and precision. Understated layers of fruit caress the palate like cashmere in this impeccable, soft wine. There is not a hard edge to be found. Black cherries, tobacco, smoke and licorice are some of the notes that come through on the finish. The flavor profile is decidedly on the dark side, but the wine’s structure is medium in body and intensity. In 2008 the Tignanello has more energy, focus and length than the Solaia. It is a fabulous achievement! The 2008 Tignanello is 80% Sangiovese aged in 300-liter French oak barrels (1/3rd new), 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc, both aged in 100% new 225-liter French oak barriques. 90 points The Wine Advocate:The 2009 Chianti Classico Brolio flows with expressive aromatics and layers of gorgeous radiant fruit all of which are woven in a silky, elegant fabric. Raspberries, smoke and tar linger on the long finish. This is one of the most refined wines I have tasted from Brolio in quite some time. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2019. Antonio Galloni

90 points The Wine Advocate:The 2007 Chianti Classico Castello di Brolio offers up rich, textured dark fruit in a succulent style that is very appealing. French oak gives the Castello di Brolio notable volume and body, in addition to an attractive smokiness that works quite nicely in this vintage. The Castello di Brolio can be enjoyed today for its forward fruit or cellared for another decade or so. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2020. Antonio Galloni

92 points The Wine Spectator-A fruity Chianti, delivering attractive berry and vanilla aromas and flavors. Medium- to full-bodied, with silky tannins and a delicious finish. Balanced and very pretty. A new single-vineyard wine from Ricasoli. This is lovely now, but will be better with bottle age. Drink now. 110 cases made.

201178 - Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino Cerretalto 2004Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino Cerretalto 2004
96 points The Wine Advocate:The 2004 Brunello di Montalcino Cerretalto is deep and powerful in its smoke, tar, spices, scorched earth and plums. The wine has shut down quite a bit since I last tasted it a few months ago, and the refined silky tannins that were present a while back have turned decidedly virile. Still, the wine’s pedigree is impossible to miss, and the only thing this needs is time, probably lots of it. Pretty scents of soy, smoke and incense inform the long, elegant finish. 251517 - Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino Cerretalto 2006Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino Cerretalto 2006
98 points The Wine Enthusiast:"Beautiful nose with natural complexity and oak-driven tones of cinnamon, clove, chocolate and exotic spice. The fruit is dark, dense and ripe. There’s extra roundness and density in the mouth that acts like the glue that holds together the wine’s firm tannins and its crisp, acidic component. Hold 10–20 more years. Great structure with a touch of pleasurable softness."

95 points The Wine Enthusiast: "This 2007 Brunello is a big, opulent pleasure bomb with lavish layers, loaded thickly on top of each other: Chocolate fudge, dark cherry, blackberry preserves, rum cake, prune, exotic spice, pipe tobacco, cola, humus and leather. It shows huge personality, intensity and staying power, too. All that density is backed by solid tannins and a steady firmness. Hold 10-15 years."

Incredibly beautiful and layered with chocolate, cherry, blackberry, spice, leather and savory notes. There's a deep mineral layer as well. Masterful mouthfeel. Compelling and lovely"

94 points The Wine Spectator:Blackberry and blueberry aromas are focused and ultraclean. Full-bodied, with a deep core of pretty fruit and polished tannins that go on and on. Closed and tight right now, but will open into something very special indeed. Best after 2011. 4,165 cases made.

251202 - Castello di Volpaia Chianti Classico 2008Castello di Volpaia Chianti Classico 2008
90 points The Wine Advocate:Volpaia’s 2008 Chianti Classico is a pretty, mid-weight offering informed by tobacco, flowers, herbs and cherries. As is often the case in cooler years, these high-altitude vineyards tend to yield a more ethereal style of wine. Still, this Chianti Classico finds its balance nicely with time in the glass. It is a model of restrained elegance. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2014. Antonio Galloni

250395 - Costanti Brunello di Montalcino 2006Costanti Brunello di Montalcino 2006
95+ points The Wine Advocate:The 2006 Brunello di Montalcino is a dazzling wine. The aromatics alone are haunting. Sweet red cherries, rosemary, sage, tobacco and cedar are woven into a fabric of nearly indescribable elegance. Costanti’s straight Brunello can sometimes lack a little depth in its fruit, but not in 2006. This totally complete, harmonious Brunello is shaping up to be one of the wines of the vintage. It is a stunner. As delicious as the wine is now, it really needs at least a handful of years for the firm tannins to start melting away. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2031. Antonio Galloni

250225 - Fattoria di Felsina Chianti Classico Riserva Rancia 2007Fattoria di Felsina Chianti Classico Riserva Rancia 2007
94 points The Wine Advocate-The 2007 Chianti Classico Riserva Rancia bursts onto the palate in a big, brooding expression of Sangiovese from Castelnuovo Berardenga. Muscular and dense to the core, the 2007 powers all the way through to the long finish. Hints of smoke, tar, leather and scorched earth emerge over time, but only with great reluctance. In a vintage where so many wines are open, the Rancia comes across as quite stubborn and in need of at least five more years in bottle. That said, it is a standout, not to mention one of the greatest values in fine, age-worthy wine. In a second tasting the 2007 Rancia came across as decidedly more elegant and restrained in style, so it will be interesting to see where this ultimately settles within the context of recent vintages. Today I don’t think the 2007 has the elegance of the 2004 nor the power and ageworthiness of the 2006, but we will see. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2027.

200680 - Fontodi Chianti Classico Vigna del Sorbo Riserva 2007Fontodi Chianti Classico Vigna del Sorbo Riserva 2007
95 points The Wine Advocate:The 2007 Chianti Classico Riserva Vigna del Sorbo is a wine that expresses a contemporary vision of what Chianti Classico can be but without ever fully abandoning its roots. The single-vineyard Vigna del Sorbo adds 10% Cabernet Sauvignon (planted on Sangiovese rootstocks) to the Sangiovese. Texturally it is classic Sangiovese with the fine, sweet tannins that are the hallmark of the vintage, while the Cabernet adds a sepia-hued dimension to the fruit and an element of greater richness in the body, but without dominating the aromatic or flavor profile. The radiant warmth of Panzano doesn’t hurt either, as the fruit is gloriously ripe and soft in this vintage. Everything is beautifully in balance, including the oak, which is barely perceptible. Today the Vigna del Sorbo is very young. It should start to be expressive around age ten and continue to drink beautifully for another decade-plus. Vigna del Sorbo remains a benchmark for the heights the international style of Chianti Classico can reach. This is another fabulous effort from proprietor Giovanni Manetti.
