Achaval Ferrer Malbec 2010 91 points The Wine Advocate:The 2010 Malbec was sourced from three vineyards, two of which are 66 and 86 years of age, with the wine aged for 9 months in French oak. It is a super-fragrant offering featuring racy red fruits, spice box, incense, and floral notes. Alvaro Palacios Camins del Priorat 2009 (91-94) points The Wine Advocate:The 2009 Camins del Priorat is more perfumed than the 2008 as well as more structured. Alvaro Palacios established his namesake winery in 1989. The flagship L’Ermita made its debut in 1993. Finca Dofi and L’Ermita vineyards are farmed biodynamically. All of the wines are bottled without filtration. In 2008 Palacios was the last grower in Priorat to harvest, waiting out rains that diluted other growers’ fruit. It appears that 2009 was a slightly more successful vintage for Alvaro Palacios (and most Priorat producers) than was 2008. Argiolas Perdera Isola dei Nuraghi 2009 90 points The Wine Advocate:The 2009 Isola dei Nuraghi Perdera is fabulous. Layers of dark fruit, herbs, spices, and minerals flow from this exuberant, medium to full-bodied offering. Hints of smoke and tar add further nuance on the finish. Bodegas Triton Avante Mencia 2009 90 points The Wine Advocate:The 2009 Avante is 100% Mencia sourced from multiple vineyards with an average age of 43 years. The wine was aged in both stainless steel (30%) and French oak (70%) for 5 months. It offers up notes of earthy minerals, a hint of balsamic, black cherries, and violets leading to a nicely proportioned, sweetly fruited, savory red with excellent volume and length. Bodegas Valdesil 'Val de Sil' Sobre Lias Godello Valdeorras 2009 91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar:Pale gold. Assertive aromas of lime and pear, with a subtle mineral undertone and suave floral qualities. Clean and brisk but nicely concentrated, with high-pitched citrus flavors giving way to richer quince, pear and nectarine. Cambon La Pelouse Haut Medoc 2009 90 points The Wine Advocate:Another of my favorite estates from the southern part of the Medoc, Macau, this Haut-Medoc cru bourgeois is a blend of 54% Merlot, 42% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Petit Verdot. The alcohol was 14% and the wine bottled unfined and unfiltered by its consulting oenologist, the brilliant Claude Gros. Wonderfully dark ruby/purple in color, with loads of sweet berry fruit as well as hints of licorice and charcoal, the wine displays a lush texture, medium to full body, and the vintage’s tell-tale ripeness, high glycerin and silky texture. It was aged for a few weeks in new French barriques followed by 6-10 months in seasoned barrels. It shows lovely density and purity in an up-front style. Dark black cherries, violets, and Asian spices perch on a medium-bodied frame with well integrated oak and an elegant personality.
